In the Making: 170 Years of Arts University Plymouth

04 Jul 2026 - 04 Oct 2026

10am-5pm Tuesday to Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday

Founded in 1856 as the Plymouth Drawing School, the institution now known as Arts University Plymouth has evolved over 170 years, through different names and eras, including Plymouth College of Art, while staying rooted in practice-led creative education. In celebration of its 170th anniversary, ‘In the Making’ brings together stories of learning, making and belonging across generations, showcasing the power of archives. At its heart is the idea of expression: how art and design can be used as a means to question, communicate and reimagine the world, as well as how it’s shaped by people, place and practice. A selection of works from The Box’s art collection by former students and teachers are also included.
