A space for curious minds to wonder, create, question and grow.

I Wonder: Creative Home Educators Sessions

23 Jun 2026 - 30 Jun 2026

These pilot 'I Wonder Home Education sessions' are designed especially for home educated children aged 4-7 years, working at the equivalent of up to Key Stage 1 level. Using the inspiring collections, galleries and visiting exhibitions at The Box as our starting point, children are encouraged to explore, question, create and think deeply about the world around them. We'll be running a free additional session on Tuesday 14 July, with first-come first-served access for attendees of our pilot sessions. Information on how to book this will be given when you attend one of our sessions.

Each week, learners will discover something new through art-making, discussion, observation and hands-on creative exploration. From ancient artefacts and natural history to contemporary artworks and immersive exhibitions, the museum becomes our classroom, sketchbook and storytelling space all at once.

These sessions are about far more than producing artwork. The focus is on nurturing creativity, sensory exploration, communication, curiosity and confidence. The inspiring environment of The Box offers a rich and ever-changing source of inspiration, encouraging children to connect art with history, science, culture and personal experience. The sessions aim to foster not only artistic development, but also independent thinking, imagination and a lifelong love of learning.

What we can offer you

Through drawing, making, conversation and playful investigation, learners develop:

  • Confidence in expressing and exploring ideas
  • Fine motor skills and artistic techniques
  • Emotional expression and self-confidence
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Communication and discussion skills
  • Observation and critical thinking
  • Curiosity about art, history, culture and the wider world

Every child is viewed as an artist in their own right. Sessions are carefully designed to be inclusive, engaging and accessible, allowing children to respond to exhibitions and objects in ways that are meaningful to them. Some weeks may involve experimental mark-making and printing, while others might include sculpture with clay, collage, storytelling, mixed media all inspired by the collections we explore together.
