The Box

Our standard opening hours are 10am-5pm, Tuesday-Sunday and selected Bank Holidays.

Entry is free! You don't need to book in advance, unless you'd like to reserve a space in the Cottonian Research Room, or book a free ticket to our Beryl Cook: Pride and Joy and Journeys with Mai exhibitions in early 2026.

We will be closed on Easter Sunday (5 April 2026).

Early closures

To prepare for the launch of 'Beryl Cook: Pride and Joy', The Box will close at 3pm on Friday 23 January 2026. To prepare for the launch of 'Journeys with Mai', The Box (including Beryl Cook: Pride and Joy in St Luke's Gallery) will close at 4pm on 13 February 2026. Last admissions to the Beryl Cook: Pride and Joy exhibition on Thursday 7 May will be at 2pm due to a private event.

The Box Kitchen & Bar

The Box Kitchen & Bar is open 10am-4.30pm (kitchen closes at 3pm) Tuesday-Sunday and selected Bank Holidays.

Enjoy brunch, lunch, drinks and ice creams in our cafe, or out on the terrace in good weather.

The Cottonian Research Room

Available as a research space all day on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays (10am-1pm and 1.30pm–4.30pm) and afternoons (1.30pm–4.30pm) on Fridays throughout the year.

Collections available for research. Click Cottonian Research Room to make an appointment. Available to visit as a gallery space from 10am-1pm Friday, all day Saturday (10am-1pm and 1.30pm–4.30pm) and 1.30-5pm on Sundays.

Shop

Our onsite shop is open 10am-5pm Tuesday-Sunday and selected Bank Holidays.

Yes, The Box is open on Saturdays and Sundays and selected Bank Holidays. Our hours can change around Easter and Christmas and we update any changes to these in advance on our Opening Hours page.

What times are the last entry for exhibitions and galleries?

We don't have an official last entry time, but please allow half an hour or more if you're coming to look at an exhibition, or to enjoy a couple of our permanent galleries.
