Access

We hope this information about accessing Smeaton's Tower helps you make the most of your visit when the lighthouse is open.

Disabled access

Due to the historic nature of the lighthouse we regret there is limited disabled access. Smeaton's Tower is more than 260 years old with 93 steps, steep ladders, low ceilings and small openings inside.

Children

Due to its steep ladders and narrow openings, children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult when visiting.

Facilities

There are no toilet facilities at the lighthouse although public conveniences are available nearby on the Hoe. We regret that food and drink are not allowed within Smeaton's Tower.

Closures

Throughout the year Smeaton's Tower may be closed for certain events. We'll update planned closures with as much notice as possible through our website and via The Box's social media accounts. It's best to double check the opening dates and times for the lighthouse if you are making a special trip.
