Community Payback Scheme is coming up roses
1 July 2025
Members of Plymouth's Community Payback Team were on site at The Box recently helping to breathe new life to the planted area in Tavistock Place.
The team had been contacted earlier in the year with a request to remove the existing weeds and poorly growing plants so they could be recycled by the Council, and then replace them with new pollinating plants.
It's exactly the type of project the scheme is designed for: providing people who are on probation or who've received court sentences that have an unpaid work requirement with meaningful tasks that benefit the local community and provide them with a sense of purpose.
The Community Payback principles include:
• Projects should be identified locally.
• Work ready skills such as good time keeping and working cooperatively should provide rehabilitation.
• The project should add value to work undertaken by public bodies, voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations.
• Primarily projects should see reparation made to the community.
As you can see from the pictures, it was a great result all round with a range of new plants that should bring an extra bit of colour to Tavistock Place throughout the summer!
