New schools programme at The Box is ready for lift off

25 February 2020

Teachers and students can start planning their visits to The Box – thanks to a new schools programme which has launched today.

The schools programme caters for Early Years, Key Stages 1-5, Special Educational Needs, Further and Higher Education through a series of bookable workshops. The sessions, which will take place across The Box’s galleries, have been co-designed with schools to support learning across the curriculum.

Topics include art, history and science and cover everything from the Bronze Age to the Blitz, Ancient Egypt to evolution and marine life to the Mayflower.

The programme, which has received funding support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England, has also been designed to take The Box to the classroom with a range of bookable loan boxes and free online learning resources.

Councillor Jon Taylor, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Transformation said:

Consulting with teachers and students during the last twelve months means The Box has been able to create a programme that really meets everyone’s needs. It’s been a fantastic process and we’re really grateful for the knowledge and expertise that everyone has shared.

The Box has some amazing collections, spaces and resources that can really enhance learning. I’m sure they’re going to be inspiring teachers and students both onsite and in the classroom for many years to come.

Onsite workshops cost just £3.50 per child while loan boxes are £20 per week. They can all be booked via this website from 12pm on Monday 2 March. Our online resources will be available from 16 March.

Some special offers are available for schools who book early including free visits and class goodie bags. Schools who make a booking before The Box’s opening date of 16 May will also be entered into a prize draw to win free transport for their visit.
