Spotlight on Sadia Pineda Hameed

Spotlight on Sadia Pineda Hameed

7 November 2025

We are delighted to announce that the recipient of the 2026 Reimagining the Film Archives 'Journeys' Digital Commission is Sadia Pineda Hameed. The commissioned work will be exhibited in the Media Lab, Gallery in February 2026, which links with the 'Journeys with Mai' exhibition at The Box.

Sadia Pineda Hameed is a Filipina Pakistani artist and writer based in the Ebbw Valley, Wales. Her work explores ways to talk about shared and inherited trauma, through anticolonial strategies of dreaming, telepathic communion and secrets. She works with 16mm film and hi8 video, sculptural installation, text and performance. Her work imagines what future tools for resistance, value and communication springing from these strategies might look like.

For this commission, Sadia will produce a new moving image work responding to the film collection at The Box. Her work will be exhibited alongside The Journeys with Mai exhibition, engaging with ideas of migration, memory, and identity that connect personal and collective histories within film archives. Through this commission, Sadia continues to expand her artistic practice and contribute to contemporary conversations exploring how archives can be reimagined through lived experience and creative reinterpretation.

Reimagining the Film Archive (RtFA) is a three-year programme (2023–2026) made possible with thanks to the National Lottery and the BFI Screen Heritage Fund.
