Plymouth’s Bombed Out St Andrew’s Church (1949)

Commemorating Resurgam. Watch the film to see how church services continued in the shell of St. Andrew’s Church in 1949.

The church was bombed in March 1941 during the Plymouth blitz. A local schoolteacher nailed a wooden sign over the door with the Latin word Resurgam meaning ‘I shall rise again’. The Church was reconsecrated on St Andrew's Day 30 November 1957.
