SOAK and The Box are proud to present an evening of performance to celebrate the exhibition ‘Forbidden Territories: 100 Years of Surreal Landscapes’. Drawing inspiration from the exhibition themes, the event will create a collaborative space for cultural expression across multiple art forms, featuring live drawing, live art and music by artists William Luz, Julia Pond, Giorgia Ciampi Tsolaki and John Matthias.

6.30pm: William Luz, North Hall
‘Drawing the Curtains’ is a workshop of a performance - or performance of a workshop - which plays with the idea of surreal drawing and drawing curtains through participation. ‘Drawing on Performance' is a performance/lecture of/on drawing: musing and sharing ideas on the techniques, position and philosophy of drawing through voice, sound and the act of drawing itself. Drawing as thinking, drawing as feeling, drawing as sensing, drawing as not drawing.

7pm: Giorgia Ciampi Tsolaki, North Hall Giorgia will be performing the Spiral, a poetic solo performance that blends physical theatre, storytelling, folk song and immersive sound by Kerry Priest. Drawing from Italo Calvino’s Cosmicomics anthology, this absurd piece takes you on an imaginative journey, searching for a sense of identity and belonging through the unlikely perspective of a self-conscious, extra-sensitive wet pulp

8.30pm: Julia Pond, South Hall
Julia Pond's work explores intersections between dance and political economics through performance and research. The Manager(festo) is a deep dive like no other into performing productively, day after day after day after day. Combining dance, bread dough, and powerpoint, this solo presentation by the CEO of BRED (@bred.company), a fictional company, slowly cracks the veneer of corporate lingo to reveal a doughier, more precarious side to work/life balance.

9pm: John Matthias, South Hall
John will perform a piece for solo amplified violin and voice drawn from his recent Enriched Audiobook of 'A Wild and True Relation' by Kim Sherwood. The score explores maritime stories and landscapes and links 18th century Devon smugglers to 21st century audiobook experimentation.
