Stuart Road Primary Academy joins us for The Wild Escape

27 April 2023

During the last few months The Box and students from Stuart Road Primary Academy have partnered to take part in Art Fund’s The Wild Escape. The project inspired by the landmark BBC series ‘Wild Isles’ united hundreds of museums and schools across the UK helping students to explore nature and creativity.

Kick-starting the project staff and students from Stuart Road visited The Box to take part in an evolution themed workshop.

Focusing on the rare Six-banded nomad bee (Britain’s rarest type of bee) and the Long-horned bee in our natural history collections students learnt how to identify these endangered species before creating an artwork based on their ideal natural habitat.

We had a super day at The Box…drawing the habitats for the evolution workshop and learning more about the bees.

Following on from the workshop staff from The Box led a special assembly at Stuart Road teaching students the importance of the community supporting our local bee species, before sowing meadow wildflowers within the school grounds to support bee habitats and pollination within the local area.

All the bees and insects need our help, we can all look after the bees.

As part of the project students will be submitting their bee habitat artworks to the Wild Escape’s Wild World collective artwork online. The Box would like to thank the staff and students of Stuart Road Primary Academy for their participation in the project!
