'Mutley' by Daryl Codrington

Daryl Codrington is a Plymouth-based digital designer, educator, sound designer and multimedia artist who works with new media and creative technologies. His micro-commission captures the Mutley Plain area of the city at night.

For his 'Plymouth After Dark' micro-commission, Daryl has brought together a series of images, clips and sequences that reflect his experiences of Plymouth and the Mutley Plain area that he has lived near since he arrived in 2017.

I moved to Plymouth five years ago. Settling in Mutley, the eddy of life along the Plain is something I wanted to capture. The press of pleasure seekers, students and shoppers on the strip. The spill of drinkers from the pubs and Metal clubs. A mix of cultures and nationalities. My life as the son of a black immigrant has inevitably meant questions of identity and connection. I've always been searching for Zion. Thank you to The Box for the chance to create something progressive after the senseless and tragic death of George Floyd.
