Jeremy Deller’s ‘Hello Sailor’ splashes into Tinside Lido this July
‘Hello Sailor!’ created by 2004 Turner Prize winning artist Jeremy Deller will make a splash at Tinside Lido in Plymouth on Saturday 5 July. The event is part of the National Gallery's bicentenary celebrations. It marks how festivals are part and parcel of art, culture and civic life, and celebrates the fact that art and artists can be catalysts of collaboration and joy.

National blue plaque honours first black footballer to captain a league team and receive England call up
Historic England has unveiled a national blue plaque in Plymouth to honour the life and career of John 'Jack' Leslie, the first Black footballer to captain a Football League team. This plaque marks Leslie’s footballing talent and celebrates the 100th anniversary year of his call-up as a reserve for the England squad in October 1925. Though this honour was later rescinded, it was an important moment in the history of English football.

Steve McQueen’s 'Grenfell' to be shown in six cities across the UK including The Box
Over the next three years, Steve McQueen’s film installation 'Grenfell' will be shown in public art galleries in six major cities across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It will open at Tramway in Glasgow this spring, after which it will travel to Chapter in Cardiff, The MAC in Belfast, The Box in Plymouth, Tate Liverpool, and MAC in Birmingham.

Sir Joshua Reynolds' 'Portrait of Mai' to visit The Box in 2026
'Portrait of Mai' by Sir Joshua Reynolds is set to embark on its first national tour, visiting Bradford, Cambridge and Plymouth as part of a major new partnership project. Touring for the first time since it was saved for the nation in 2023, 'Portrait of Mai' will travel to Bradford Council's Cartwright Hall Art Gallery, as part of Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture, The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge and The Box in Plymouth.
